Many of my recent thoughts and undertakings in the studio have prompted me to consider deeply the notion of being not just an artist but also an observer.
I don't just mean in a literal sense as if I was capturing a still life in charcoal or a en plein air landscape in paint. I mean really making sense of what I am seeing by bringing a multitude of senses to moment of looking.

Archiving Experience and Observation Through Creative Response

Painting the In-Between: Reflections on Emotional Terrain in the landscapes of the Latent Series
This series began with the concept of allowing the latent qualities of my mixed media working process to surface and manifest in ways that are ultimately guided by the diversity of momentary action and thought.
Reflecting on recent work, in particular my Portal Series and The Boardwalk, I also wanted to revisit elements of the visual language that developed during the making of this past work, including verticals, horizontals and organic shapes.

Abstractions Inspired by Spirit of Place: The River House Commission
The River House Commission was created in response to a unique setting—a home perched above the Noosa River, where water, light, and shifting reflections define the atmosphere of place. Each painting was conceived to echo the rhythms of the river, the riverbanks, and the passing watercraft. They offer a dialogue between the different energies of the river and the home itself.

Abstracting the Pathway to the Sea: Reflections on The Boardwalk
Working on my Portal Series encouraged my fascination with swales and beach access tracks along the Sunshine Coast.
The Boardwalk was inspired by these meeting places of land, sea, and sky; thresholds where movement, memory, and atmosphere converge. They are places of the 'in-between', with pathways that tempt us to hurry along, in pursuit of the expansive ocean vista, that we know awaits.
