In recent weeks, I've found myself encountering a series of disruptions to my work routine, which have in turn shifted my focus away from thoughts about where my work is going.   I found myself painting a door this past week, rather than a canvas...(it's a long story, which I'll be able to explain if you come and see me at open studios in October - it involves a bit of show and tell.....) Anyway; it's a strange but interesting place that feels a little bit unsettling....

With my recent printing experiments now brooding quietly on the studio bench and as I wonder where to go next with them, I've been tuning into the importance of experimentation. Stepping beyond tried and proven processes or techniques and embracing working with new materials is always a step into the unknown. And one to be relished rather than feared!

What do you give an artist for Christmas? There's something that's top of my list this year...... No, it's not paint, or new pencils or brushes or even workshop experiences or a special gallery visit (though I'd love to be gifted a quick trip to Sydney to see the Magritte exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.....) But in reality, it's none of those things.

I've tried juggling more than once.... I can definitely say, it's not on my list of successful achievements! But set aside, for a moment, the image of a court jester's outfit and the three pointed hat with bells on the end and the pixie shoes with the curled up toes.

I am a collector of interesting packaging - not just for printmaking, but sometimes I just can't go past the structure offered by an unusual box! Everything gets vetted before it goes in the recycle bin....
