Studio Diary - July 2022
This month has been busy and creative flow has taken a bit of a battering! But how do you hold onto it and keep a sense of forward momentum? I have a few tips to share on how I keep myself in the 'art space' at times like these.

Yes, my paintings fail!
But it's happened so often over the years that I've developed ways to move them past that stage.
Every painting I make is filled with tipping points that could see the work descend into outright failure (the throw it in the bin sort) or move into a new, exciting and previously undiscovered place.
But what makes the difference between a painting that fails and one that ends up being successful?

Talking about your art
Often the first people we ask an opinion of are our family and friends, as they're closest to us, easily accessible and more frequently around. We are also more likely to show them work in progress, hoping for an encouraging response and that they see the 'good' bits in our work, as we do. It can be disheartening when a nod or a grunt is all that comes your way and this can raise the anxiety we may feel about how a painting is going.

Is my painting any good?
I've been tuning in to quite a bit of artists chat recently, where artists have been asking themselves this question. So naturally, it got me thinking. What does this even mean and who gets to decide?
It too is a question I ask myself almost constantly during my making process and with extra time allowed to consider it when I feel I'm at the point I'm ready to declare a piece finished.

Incognito Art Show 2022
There were so many buyers lined up outside the door on sale day this year, there weren't enough hours in the day to get all the collectors through the doors and with over 1,400 artists contributing over 3,500 artworks to the show, this year's event was huge! Remaining art works are now up for grabs in the online sale, so make a cuppa and have a browse.
