A painting isn't just something to look at or to hang on an empty wall. Spending time at the Affordable Art Fair in Brisbane last week, naturally got me thinking, about all sorts of things. I think I'm going backwards. But is it a bad thing? I've stumbled into a pause..... It's been a pretty hectic few months, culminating in Noosa Open Studios and I won't lie, I sat down on the Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the thought of having no particular deadlines to meet this side of the festive season - which someone reminded me the other day is only 12 weeks away (I've absolutely no idea how that can be possible, my brain is still in January).  

This series began with the concept of allowing the latent qualities of my mixed media working process to surface and manifest in ways that are ultimately guided by the diversity of momentary action and thought.  ​ Reflecting on recent work, in particular my Portal Series and The Boardwalk, I also wanted to revisit elements of the visual language that developed during the making of this past work, including verticals, horizontals and organic shapes.

Who doesn't love a bit of Magic? Wow, what a week it's been! When the mundane stuff is done, the floor is swept, the paintings are on the wall, and I can see through the windows properly for the first time since last October, the waiting begins.

"What inspires you?" This is a question I'm preparing myself for, with this year's Noosa Open Studios nearly upon us! It's a question I ask myself on a daily basis. I could give you a hundred answers that include everything from sweeping landscapes and fallen leaves to emotional experiences and waste cardboard packaging. But that doesn't make me sound very focused.... which I admit sometimes feel I ought to be.
