Beach Access track No.47 at Marcus Beach on the Sunshine Coast, has for me, over the past 20 or so years, become entwined with, and an integral part of, my life journey. I have walked this particular track hundreds of times, finding it different each time from the last; in all weathers, at different times of the day, in various emotional states, on special occasions and celebratory days with family and friends, and sometimes alone to contemplate events and life happenings.

A year in the making, my Habitat Series is finally complete! What a journey with such great learnings to take away from the process of making this collection of paintings. Allowing myself 12 months to work through these pieces has opened up a world of different possibilities and given me new and alternative approach to my art making. This series began as a pathway to explore and communicate historical stories and events that have taken on a deep and personal significance over time. A year in the making, these paintings permanently inhabited my studio space alongside other work which gave me a tangible and compelling reason to pause and reflect on their purpose and meaning as a body of work.

I was thrilled to have recently had the opportunity to exhibit this series at Yandina Art & Framing, in the historic town of Yandina here on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere is to be found in this local store and gallery!

I'm beguiled by abstraction and the diversity of personal responses to, and interpretations of, an artists non representational creation. I began this series seeking a fundamental shift in the direction of my art making. I wanted to explore the possibilities of making new art that was different to anything I had made before.
