I recently found time to revisit an idea that emerged this time last year at Noosa Open Studios. Taking part in the event in 2021 was a first for me, I had no idea what to expect, who would come (if anyone!) and how it would all go. But I signed up and leapt in with both feet, knowing that somehow an energy shift would take place, though I wasn't sure how it would happen or what it would look like, but I was up for the adventure.

I was thrilled to have recently had the opportunity to exhibit this series at Yandina Art & Framing, in the historic town of Yandina here on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere is to be found in this local store and gallery!

I'm beguiled by abstraction and the diversity of personal responses to, and interpretations of, an artists non representational creation. I began this series seeking a fundamental shift in the direction of my art making. I wanted to explore the possibilities of making new art that was different to anything I had made before.

The mind will freely wander into unexpected places when time and energy is spent focused on the physical process of making and creating. 'Rekindle' is about working in the present moment yet simultaneously existing in a space of memories, both visual and emotional. 

A gust of curiosity has blown in through the door. The new year has brough with it a fresh and exciting energy for exploring and expanding my mindset as I consider my purpose for making my paintings.

Journeys, in all their forms, are woven from moments that leave lasting impressions. Some pass by in the blink of an eye, others unfold slowly across time — yet each, whether fleeting or enduring, recent or long past, physical or imagined, carries an emotional weight. These moments have a way of settling into us, gathering meaning with hindsight, and deepening our understanding of both place and self.
