I think I must have been dreaming about a field trip to South Australia, as whilst I was working on this sketch, I felt a sudden urge to disappear into space….not literally, I’m not sure these rocket builders quite have their machines failsafe enough yet, but ‘space’ as in wide open space…..

I've been having a bit of a play around with collage papers and shapes, as I had so many interesting bits of material left over from my gelli printing. I also pulled out offcuts of collagraphs and monoprints for this exercise.

Glimpses and rabbit holes...there have been plenty of those lately, but am I making progress? How do I know if I'm going round in circles or forging a new path forward? It can be difficult to tell the difference between the two sometimes!

Next on my list of colour triads to explore was Violet, Green and Orange. A tricky combination for me as you'll see from the video! Lots of twists and turns until I got the balance right. I found it difficult to be happy with using any of these colours in their prismatic state, hence lots of white and darker admixtures coming to the rescue! There's nothing like a little collage exercise to explore interesting textures, contrasts and compositions! Using leftover pieces from the gel prints I did for my Dusty Summer sketch I spent a happy couple of hours putting together there small A5 sized collages, to add to my 'Wall of Curiosities.' Working with collage always feels a little simplistic as it's one of the earliest art making methods we're introduced to as kids in school.

Continuing with my colour explorations in paint and with my gel plate! The colour focus for this sketch was the triad of Red-Violet, Blue-green and Yellow-Orange. These are colours I haven't used before as a combination and part way through making the painting I decided to get out the gel plate to create some collage material in suitable colours.
