Abstract art has always had a special way of making us feel something — even without clear forms or familiar subjects. It speaks through colour, shape, rhythm, and mood. And one of the most intriguing ways it does this is through the idea of flat dimensions — art that celebrates the surface rather than pretending to have depth. With Noosa Open Studios 2025 now over for another year, I've found myself reflecting on the experience and the learnings that have happened through my interactions with this year's wonderfully engaged visitors. As always the magic of opening my studio door and waiting to see who will walk through it and what perspective they will bring is something I have come to cherish.

As this years art trail event gets underway, I'm mindful of those who can't make it in person! Take a peek behind the scenes of this years exhibition of original work, ceramic art, prints, sketchbooks and my latest project. It is a privilege to be chosen for inclusion in the Circle Foundation for the Arts Art Ideal: Volume 5, especially as the curator's essay and purpose of gathering these artists together resonate deeply with me at this moment in time. Tunberg's essay explores the theme of 'polyphony', which refers to the simultaneous combination of several parts, each with its own melody, yet harmonizing together. This offers a timely perspective on the contemporary art world.

Many of my recent thoughts and undertakings in the studio have prompted me to consider deeply the notion of being not just an artist but also an observer.   I don't just mean in a literal sense as if I was capturing a still life in charcoal or a en plein air landscape in paint. I mean really making sense of what I am seeing by bringing a multitude of senses to moment of looking.

I can't believe it's come around again so soon - I have no idea where the year has gone! This year marks 10 years since the art trail event began which is a big anniversary to celebrate. Our two major fundraisers in the form of the Prestige Art Auction and the Art Cube event have both been a huge success - with all donated artworks sold and all 40 of the amazing art cubes went to good homes with happy buyers at a fabulous night of food and fun at The Doonan Hotel.
