What is it about this leaf? If you're one of my Instagram followers you'll have seen a gradual unfolding of some small paintings on paper using the Round Leafed Mallee as inspiration. I had never come across this eucalypt leaf until it arrived in a bunch of flowers, as background greenery to some beautiful blooms.

I'll admit, I wasn't sure where to start with this project - it's the biggest I've tackled! One bonus was that the overall surface area was broken down into three panels of different widths, so I could just look at a small section of it at a time if the need arose! The three pieces will be hung as part of 'Slivers', an exhibition at Studio One Noosa 20th May to 21st June, that references barcode art.

I am a collector of interesting packaging - not just for printmaking, but sometimes I just can't go past the structure offered by an unusual box! Everything gets vetted before it goes in the recycle bin....

My latest work on paper began with a cool colour palette, which I eventually added to with a few warmer colours. This was an interesting sketch as I found several learnings to take away from it.

This sketch had interesting beginnings, being an abandoned demo piece that I started back in October 2023 during Noosa Open Studios. I'm not one for throwing things away, so I thought I'd revisit it and see what I could make of it.

Making this sketch prompted me to think about the place that 'leftovers' have in my art - and not the Christmas kind! What to do with all those snippings of paper and that excess paint on the palette when I come to the end of a project?
