"Reconnect Your Drive" I've been getting this error message every time I open up my computer over the past few weeks. It's remarkably persistent with its big red warning triangle and loud pinging notification sounds. At first I just ignored it, then I got a bit frustrated with it. And then the penny dropped.

How do I know when a painting is finished? I've got new paintings on the go at the moment and this week I felt like I was getting close to finishing one of them....... And that's when the artists' age-old dilemma comes into play. At what point do I stop and feel satisfied that this painting is 'done'?

Making art can be a risky business, but what does 'creative risk' look and feel like? Art making risks are unique to the individual. What doesn't feel risky for you in your arts practice, could feel very risky for me and vice versa. For me, the moment of deciding to take a risk arrives quite suddenly and without any preamble, or instructions! Glimpses and rabbit holes...there have been plenty of those lately, but am I making progress? How do I know if I'm going round in circles or forging a new path forward? It can be difficult to tell the difference between the two sometimes!

Some may say I'm a dreamer.....and maybe I am, but re-imagining is the artist's way. I've been busy with my wall of 'signposts', not only creating new sketches to add to it, but beyond the instinctive making-in-the-moment, also making notes about how each little new creation might show me a way forward.

How do I know where I'm going? Navigation isn't my strong point, but having a map does help! With my 'Portal' Series out there now and hanging in the gallery, I'm taking some time to reflect......
