'Second Sky' holds the experience of seeing one landscape inside another, an English sky glimpsed within an Australian one, and just as often the reverse, the two never fully separate, always overlapping somewhere in my mind. The banksia leaves falling from the sky are printed forms that, on another day, in another light, might just as easily have been oak leaves from the Yorkshire landscape. A eucalypt branch frames the scene the way memory frames a place, suggesting a deeper journey into a place where memories drift and fuse. This is what it means to see two skies at once, not one replacing the other, but both always together, somewhere overhead.
Part of the Threshold Series - a body of work exploring the dual landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the Sunshine Coast, and what it means to be shaped by both. Read more about the series in the blog.
