'The Winding Way' speaks to the journey of a life lived in two places. The stone cottage is nestled into the landscape, symbolic of the home I carry with me, my roots still visible from the road. The mangrove motif set against the turquoise is a reference to Lake Weyba, where the drawings of these plants at the water's edge were made. The nostalgic colour palette creates a feeling of hazy memory, imbued familiarity and a sense of comfort. The path winds across the composition, evoking a journey unfinished and ongoing.
This is the final painting in the Threshold Series - a body of work exploring the dual landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the Sunshine Coast, and what it means to be shaped by both. Read more about the series in the blog.
