'Seeds of Reflection' speaks to something I've come to understand through the making of these paintings themselves, that the physical process of creating, layering, cutting, printing, building a landscape piece by piece, has become its own quiet path into reflection. Burnt orange and teal move through this piece the way they move through the Australian landscape, while the field barns anchor the scene firmly in the Yorkshire Dales, the two places sitting together within the one frame. Banksia leaves are pressed into the pink gelli-printed ground, alongside modified elements of the mangrove motif, both distinctly Australian, both quietly at work beneath the surface. Eucalypts stand within the scene, and raindrops fall through it as they do throughout this series, marking the passage between one place and another. Each motif was placed the way a seed is planted, deliberately, but without knowing exactly what it will grow into, and it's often only in the finished piece that I can see what I was really reflecting on all along.
