This painting is about the stillness that settles across the landscape in the fading light once the noise of the day is done, creating a place for the soul to settle and rest. I find comfort in my memories of the rounded hills of the Yorkshire Dales, walking among them and exploring them as I once did as a child. A grevillea leaf print, made from a tree in my Australian bushland garden, places the composition in the present moment with a subtle but tangible reference to my Australian home, whilst evoking the quiet transition from one phase of life into another.
Part of the Threshold Series - a body of work exploring the dual landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the Sunshine Coast, and what it means to be shaped by both. Read more about the series in the blog.
