'Sky House' is about the feeling of being nurtured by, and belonging to, the landscape. A feeling that settled into my subconscious at an early age. The stone cottage is nestled into the hillside, below an expanse of sky, reminiscent of the house I grew up in with its stone walls softened by layers of the landscape, nurtured and held within the folds of the hills. There's no sense of being overwhelmed by the scale of the landscape, only held and sheltered by it, and belonging to it. Within a scene that could, at first glance, belong entirely to the Yorkshire Dales, distinctly Australian threads quietly unfold. Banksia leaf and mangrove speak to my bushland home at Lake Weyba. This intimate piece is a distillation of landscape experience through print and paint imbued with strong sentiments of home.
