'Listening Place' is an invitation to journey with me through the rolling green hills of the Yorkshire Dales, refreshed by rain and bathed in the afterglow of a storm. This is the landscape of my childhood, still vivid and present with me. Motifs of eucalypt and mangrove fringe this piece, marking the passage between one home and another. There's a rhythm to this piece, a sense of conversation with the land, alive in my memory even now. This painting holds space for that rhythm of back and forth to unfold slowly, the way it might if you simply stood still, listening in either landscape whilst the land speaks.
