'Where the Spirit Dwells' speaks to my feeling that the environment holds so much more than what's visible to the eye. I find landscape imbued with a particular kind of wisdom, ancient geographical history, stories of other beings and a presence that existed there long before I arrived and one that will remain long after I go. This is true of the Yorkshire Dales I grew up in and equally true of the Sunshine Coast bushland I now call home, two places, two histories, and the same grounding presence running through both. The barns may be places to shelter, but the real refuge in this piece is felt rather than seen, in the spirit of the land itself, and a sense of knowing that I belong to the land as much as it belongs to me, wherever in the world that land might be.
