Fields of Calm is about the ease that settles over me when I look out across an open landscape, seeing layer upon layer, stretching gently toward the horizon. There's nothing to resolve in a view like this, it's just about observing the landscape and receiving the space to breathe and let the mind go quiet. It's a feeling that doesn't belong to one place in particular, it's more a state I arrive at wherever the land opens up before me, whether that's a hillside I've known my whole life or one I've come to call home in the years since. This piece isn't a record of any single view, it's about the peaceful quiet that is gifted by my favourite landscapes once looking becomes enough, and the moment requires nothing more of me than to just simply be.
Part of the Threshold Series - a body of work exploring the dual landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the Sunshine Coast, and what it means to be shaped by both. Read more about the series in the blog.
