The Art of Barcodes
In Slivers, nine artists come together to pay creative homage to one of the most overlooked symbols of modern life: the humble barcode. Once confined to the realm of commerce and convenience, the barcode becomes a springboard for visual exploration – stripped back, reimagined, and reinterpreted through narrow slices of original art.
Each artist has created a series of vertical panels. When displayed together, they form a collective code of expression.
Uniting Individuality and Structure
Arranged in a barcode-like configuration, the works speak to individuality within structure. They highlight identity through repetition and beauty born from uniformity.
Presented as a curated interplay of lines, texture, and colour, ‘Slivers’ challenges viewers to look beyond function. It encourages us to find rhythm, story, and symbolism in the everyday. Like the barcodes that inspire them, these artworks invite us to scan deeper. We are called to look beyond the surface and decode the creativity within.

Behind the Scenes of the Project
I'll admit, I wasn't sure where to start with this project—it's the biggest I've tackled! One bonus was that the overall surface area was broken down into three panels of different widths. This allowed me to focus on a small section at a time when needed.
You can take a look at how the panels came together in my work-in-progress video.
And I couldn't help but do a bit of research into barcode art because of my involvement in the project. You can read more about it in my blog post: Barcode Art Blog Post.

Conclusion
The "Slivers" exhibition represents more than just art; it symbolizes a deeper connection to the everyday objects around us. By transforming something as mundane as a barcode into a source of inspiration, these artworks invite us to reconsider our perception of the contemporary world.
The exhibition is on at Studio One Noosa until 21st June.
