Art VLOG: Starting a New Abstract Painting

Jun 4, 2023

It seems I never begin a new abstract painting the same way twice! But I thought I'd share the beginnings of one of my latest pieces as I start with collage.

Beginning with Collage

I gathered together a collection of old scrapbooking papers, gel prints and inky papers with interesting marks.

I did roughly curate the colours, but with no real thought about where this new abstract painting might go eventually.

I used a super Heavy Matte Gel as my adhesive which works well for the thicker papers.

I also dampened some of the pieces with water spray before sticking them down - it's so interesting to see how the papers stretch when you do that!

I then used both inks, and thicker paint to get the surface going. Follow along as I begin to energise the surface and lay some foundations for whatever comes next. If you have any questions let me know in the comments!
