Gympie Regional Gallery hosts the annual Du Reitz Art Award at the historic School of Arts Building in Gympie.

This is a fantastic exhibition packed full of diverse 2D and 3D work, with everything from ceramics, assemblage, photography, drawing and painting by both local and national artists. I can't recommend a visit highly enough for a snapshot of the exciting work that's being made across the region and further afield.
This year I am thrilled to have been selected as a finalist in the Du Reitz art awards.
The overall winning piece by Ian Gunn is simply stunning and Emma Thorpe's "Still Water" won the 2D prize.
My mixed media painting 'Submerged' was selected to be part of this exhibition which was pre-selected by Noosa Regional Gallery Director Michael Brennan and Trudie Leigo, Regional Arts Manager, CQ University and Independent Curator, with final judging by Kevin Wilson, arts writer and co-ordinator of the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre.
| Artist Statement for 'Submerged'
Tales and folklore held within this ancient lake whisper at the mystery of a forgotten village above which I surely float. Suspended below the surface I am bobbing gently this way and that, feeling those stories floating beside me; ripples and rain above, a glimpse of blue between the clouds, I am in an other-worldy place beyond reach. The faraway sound of the wind disturbing the woodland is filtered like a promise as I drift among the supine reeds.

The gallery put on a fabulous opening event and have documented the show beautifully - follow the links below the check out the exhibition online, or if your passing by - do call in and see the work in person, you won't be disappointed!
