Creative Inspiration: A Day in the City

It's not like I haven't been to Brisbane before - having worked there for a few years and having spent plenty of time exploring the city on many occasions in the past 20 or so years I've been living on the Sunshine Coast. It's a great place to go for some creative inspiration.

What struck me this time though, was the difference in my perspective of the city.
Having spent the last 12 months or so really focused on exploring shapes and structure in my artwork, I had a heightened sense of awareness that all I was registering as I walked around town was, guess what? Shapes and structures!
I felt a bit like I'd entered a twilight zone where everything around me was just presented as creative inspiration: lines, shapes and forms and I couldn't look away from the contrasts that presented themselves between the edges of buildings and glimpses of the sky, from one building to another, the bridges and the river and the monolithic buildings on the Southbank and the surrounding parklands.
It's one thing to spend time making art in between doing other 'life' things, but when you feel as though you are seeing, breathing and living life through an artist's lens and you realise that there is no separation between life and art, life is art and vice versa, you journey to a new and invigorating place entirely.
I'll remind myself not to roll my eyes at the thought of a day in the city ever again!
