This rare and delicate butterfly is found only in the alpine and subalpine regions of southeastern Australia, particularly in Victoria and parts of New South Wales. This species is specially adapted to cold, high-altitude environments and relies on native alpine grasses for food and breeding.
Due to its restricted habitat and sensitivity to climate change, it is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ in Victoria with warming temperatures and habitat disturbance posing significant threats to its survival.
