Original Abstract Art: Golden Boy - Work in Progress

Here's a little play around with an original abstract art painting that wanted to be a landscape to begin with, which I wrestled with as you'll see. This initial struggle to define the landscape elements within the sketch led me to explore various aspects of my creative process.

As I engaged with this painting, I found myself grappling with the horizon line, a critical component that often serves as the dividing line between earth and sky, grounding the viewer in a spatial context.

The horizon line, in its simplicity, can evoke a sense of vastness and depth, drawing the eye outward and inviting the imagination to wander into the infinite. As I continued to work on the piece, I realized that my instinctual focus on the horizon line and other recognizable landscape features often acts as a gateway into the abstract realm.

It is only after I have fully acknowledged and established these elements that I feel liberated enough to venture beyond the confines of traditional representation. This transition from the concrete to the original abstract art piece is both fascinating and revealing, as it highlights the duality of my artistic vision.

The interplay between the tangible and the intangible becomes a dance of creativity, where the landscape serves as a foundation upon which I can build more fluid, expressive forms.

By allowing myself to wrestle with these initial landscape elements, I can break free from their constraints and explore the more liberated expressions of color, shape, and texture that characterize my abstract work. This exploration has led to an interesting observation for me about how I work and the importance of allowing the initial stages of creation to inform the final outcome. Each stroke of the pencil or brush becomes a conversation with the canvas, guiding me from the familiar into the unknown. Enjoy!
